Aliza Shor, BASc, Counsellor

Aliza Shor, MACP, RP (Qualifying)

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

I provide individual therapy to children, adolescents, and adults struggling with anxiety disorders (social anxiety, agoraphobia, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)),  obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), body-focused repetitive behaviours (BFRBs), such as trichotillomania or hair-pulling disorder, excoriation or skin-picking disorder, depression, and disordered eating.

My therapeutic approach incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy

I have always been passionate about mental health and empowering individuals to live a values-based, meaningful life. I believe that we all have the potential to make positive lifestyle changes despite the negative emotions or intrusive thoughts that we may experience.

Every individual is different and requires a tailored approach to therapy. We will work collaboratively in a warm, safe, and respectful environment where you will feel supported and understood. Together, we will develop an individualized treatment plan that addresses your concerns and reflects your unique lifestyle and goals.

My background enables me to take a holistic approach to health and consider each individual’s physical, emotional, and social well-being. In addition to my education and training in counselling psychology, I hold a  bachelor’s degree in nutrition and strive to help my patients achieve balance and optimal mental and physical health.

Having several years of experience working as an elementary and high school teacher, I am familiar with the concerns I see in today’s students: anxiety disorders, stress, depression, low self-esteem, as well as the pressure to succeed and to fit in. I currently continue teaching grade 11 Psychology and love interacting with my students.

I was born in Mexico City and value the importance of family, community, and cultural/religious traditions. I have been living in Canada for the past 11 years. I am fluent in English and Spanish and look forward to working with clients of all backgrounds!

In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, watching football, and hanging out with family and friends.
